Q. How long do led street lights last?
A: LEDs are generally stated to last for more than 40,000 hours, and some manufacturers advertise that their LEDs can operate for about 100,000 hours.
The main problem with this is that LED does not simply cease to function, it’s rated life cannot be calculated using traditional lamp measurement methods. In fact, when testing the life of the LED, no one will stay around and wait for it to stop working. However, there are other ways to measure the life of an LED, which is long-lasting because it does not have the problem of a fused filament.
LED will not stop functioning directly, but it will gradually degrade with the passage of time. Some predictions show that high-quality LEDs can maintain more than 60% of the initial lamp brightness after 50,000 hours of continuous operation. Assuming that the LED has reached its rated service life, it may actually still be emitting light, only the light is very weak.
To extend the life of the LED, it is necessary to reduce or completely dissipate the heat generated by the LED chip. Heat is the main reason why LEDs stop functioning, and the life of an LED is related to the LED’s chip and LED driver.
